Anyone with experience towing 4000+ lbs travel trailer?

$

I’ve been using my 2015 MDX with ATF cooler to tow our 22ft, 3100 lb hybrid travel trailer (3500 with all the camping gear). I would say that it does quite well! No issues at all to date.

I’m considering buying a new trailer with a dry weight of 4400 lbs. That will be near the limit of the MDX once loaded carefully with gear.

I have 8 years of experience towing campers. I used to tow the previously mentioned travel trailer with two different Town and Country minivans. I know we were slightly over the limit for the vehicle and this is NOT a post to endorse towing heavier than recommended trailers. Having said that, I can honestly attest to the fact that as long as I was driving responsibility (slowing down, proper WDH setup, monitoring transmission temp, changing fluids pro-actively) the T&C’s performed incredibly well with the load. Never had any drivetrain issues with either vehicle.

I’m not looking for lectures on the dangers of driving near the limit of a vehicles ratings. But I am interested in hearing from anyone with experience pulling a large camper with the MDX that was at least over 4000 lbs.

3G TL reverse tilt mirror and reverse light no on

$

Hi all,

I have replaced the fuse #4, #20, #21 to 10amp from 7.5 amp. I am still unable to have the mirror tilt down while reversing (yes the knob is selected L/R). The mirror can still move if i were to set the knob to (L/R)

on the same token my reverse light does not work either. Even if i had replaced the light bulb still does not solve the side mirror for not tilting down.

Can someone help since I rely on my reverse light and would be nice to have my mirror tilt again.

09 TL 1st gear issues from a stop; rpms bounce, wants to and does stall

Hoping someone can shed some insight.

My 09 TL started acting up. From a start, the RPMs will bounce, car jerks and wants to stall. And does if you don't feather the throttle at the right time. However, you can put it in reverse and stop/go a million times without a hiccup. Once you get some speed, car drives normal.

My tranny guy says its not the TC locking up; that would happen in forward or reverse. Says its not a tranny issue.

Not throwing codes, no CEL.

He is leaning towards a mass air flow sensor issue as he says he is getting some weird data.

Anyone have experience with a similar issue?

2014 RDX humming

Howdy - been struggling trying to find out what the issue might be with my 2014 rdx, but at around 1.5-2k rpm, the car starts making a hum sound (not sure exactly where it's coming from) but the closest I can describe it to is the sound of the old school automatic radio antennas on old cars. I initially started experiencing it after i got my A123 done at the dealership, and when I brought it back, the issue couldn't be easily replicated. Initially told me it couldve been because I was using aftermarket oil/filter (mobil1 for both), but when I went back again for another change to see if that was the cause and used their OEM parts, the problem persisted. its since become a little more frequent to my knowledge or at least I'm noticing it more. I'm thinking it may have something to do with the AWD transfer case fluid that was done at a123. Any thoughts? or tips on how to better diagnose it?

Revs dropped under 1k, Burning smell, no AC. Now car is making a weird noise!

Hi everyone,

I'm Manny. I'm new here, I drive the 2015 ILX - 2.4 - 6 Speed MT.

Today, on my drive to work, I got caught at a light. My car begin to drop revs under 1000RPM, every few seconds. This has never happened before, not even a hint of it. The AC gave out shortly after, followed by a burning smell. Now I have a deep knocking sound coming from the engine.

Has this happened to anyone else? The car is driving fine but that sound is making me nervous.

Thanks!

1998 RL VSS Wire Help

I am looking for a convenient under-dash location to tap into a VSS signal - I've installed a great new head unit with Wireless CarPlay, but it needs a "Speed Pulse Wire" connection to operate in a wireless configuration (otherwise, a USB cable must be attached).
I love my RL, and this new stereo makes it nice and current - the final piece of the puzzle is this darn VSS wire. If I have to go through the firewall, so be it, but there MUST be a speed pulse wire somewhere by my feet - maybe going into the cruise module or similar location?
Right now, the wire that needs to be connected to a VSS signal is behind that little triangular panel by my right foot.

Thanks so much in advance!!

Questions about brakes

Need to replace my Front brake pads pretty soon. I wanted to do it myself to save some money. Currently, if I go down a big hill or something, the brakes will vibrate. So I want to change the rotors as wll. My question are:
1) Does it matter if you have different rotor/pads in the front versus the back?
2) Any recommendation on rotor/ ceramic pad (keep brake dust down) combo that will help with the vibration?

Best news I've received today. GROM is beta testing Vline2 for our 3G MDX. I have VL2 in my Lexus, it's super awesome.
Can't wait to install this into our MDX. Acura Infotainment is so dated without Android Auto/Carplay.
If you don't know what VLine is, check out their website. https://gromaudio.com/store/vline/index.html

Hi everyone I just bought my 2010 TL 6MT about 5 months ago and I've started to have an issue with the shifter being loose while in gear and its driving me insane. I have a video of what it's like here:

At the transmission here are two more videos of what it looks like:

I've read somewhere that it could be the bushings but the entire lever seems to be moving around when this happens. Does anyone know what this might be?

Thanks!

Whatever this is under the dash on the right side of my steering just started knocking when I first start the car and now while I’m driving. My bf unplugged it and it stopped but we don’t know what it is. Any ideas?

Where can I get a headlight lense? (Just the outer clear lense?)

I am in the worst mood imaginable right now, tried to clear my lenses and paint the housing, ended up f*cking up one of the clear lenses bad, anyone know if I can find one somewhere? I found nothing on eBay... this really sucks, I don't want to have to buy a whole new assembly.

Should I get the SH-AWD manual?

Hi all,

I've been looking for my next car for over a year now (simply because I have high standards, am interested in low-production sporty manuals, and the market has sucked lately). I currently have a 2009 Camry which has failed me on reliability, and fuel efficiency and is therefore valueless as a car (so I'm giving it to my younger brother :rolling:).

I've been looking for basically a daily that's as fun as it can be, and I need some storage space but have no passengers ever. I want a car that I love and can keep forever, until it falls apart (so it needs to last). Since we don't have wagons here (thanks CAFE laws) the only logical option is a Japanese sedan, with a good balance of size and sportiness. My top contender was the G37S, simply because you could get the manual in a sedan. It's a hell of a deal especially since I like those engines. Also on my list was the 8th gen accord coupe, which seemed roomy for a coupe and less feature-laden (yes I'm in the entry-level luxury sector, but on a Honda I would want simplicity).

I have driven the accord, a G37 and an IS350, but the automatic in the IS left me cold and it was small. The Accord drivetrain was phenomenal, I absolutely loved it other than I wish it had a hair more space. I drove an automatic G37 and really loved it and I can't imagine how nice it would be with a stick.

Perhaps you can see where this is going: I forgot about Acura until yesterday. A 3rd gen Type S would be awesome, the simplicity appeals to my driving pleasure and the long-term Honda reliability. In my search for a 3rd gen I accidentally discovered the 4th gen SH-AWD that actually has a manual option with the J37. I live where it's warm and figured AWD would be a dumb waste of weight, maintenance, and fuel, but it seems like SH-AWD was designed to deliver regardless. If that's what it takes to get a manual, I guess I'm in. But I'm a bit concerned about having fun in the 3800 lbs this car will be. Yes the AWD handles the weight well, the suspension is tuned well on the manual, and the J37 can motivate that mass, but more mass just means more maintenance and fuel costs (I'm already hesitant about premium which is another plus on the accord).

These cars seem to be super overlooked, so I figured I'd come straight to the heart and find out from you knowledgeable people about what this car is like to own and drive. Is the extra weight effectively offset by the technology? I don't think I need to ask if the car is reliable and spacious, but I will. Is it? Should I try and find one?

Considering purchasing a 2016-2017 RDX. Any major reliability concerns?

Thanks in advance!

Tuning options for TLX

$

Hey everyone,

I didn't know where else to go with this but I am seriously stumped. Does anyone know of any upcoming tuning methods for the TLX? I am planning on upgrading the J35 manifold to a J37 manifold/ throttle body. I might also try to swap out the J35 heads for some J32 cylinder heads as well. Maybe a cam upgrade

My second option would be to go the turbo or supercharger route, because as we all know, Honda engines really shine while under forced induction.

Anyway, my problem is that I can;t find any tuning options out there. Haltech doesn't have any EMS kits (frankly I don't think they'll be making one anytime soon), and I haven't heard anything from the Hondata guys about coming out with a Reflash/FlashPro for the TLX.

If anyone could shine some light on this for me that would be great

Thanks

Spark Plug Wires

Hi everyone! I was wondering have anyone try to replace/change their spark plug wires? The reason why I’m asking is because while I was trying to unplug the wire clips from the ignition coils. The side clips on the snapped and broke due to how old and dried it was. I have a base navigation 07 TL btw.

LKAS and MPG.

Drove my wife's RDX Tech from NOVA to Central PA and back, total 280 miles. Trip almost exclusively on Rt 15 which is a mixture of two land and modern 4 lane. Some 65 MPH limit in PA. Ran into morning commuter traffic but MPG got as high as 28 after about 100 miles. Final MPG was 27.4. Car has a little over 4K miles. I have a 2016 GLC 300 and the two cars are similar, but different. GLC 300 has 20K miles and on the same trip I normally get 29-30 MPG. RDX actually has about 20 HP more and one more gear. The turbo in the RDX seems to be more aggressive. GLC requires premium and been using COSTCO and BP premium in the RDX. I like the ACC on the RDX which I don't have on the GLC. I played with the LKAS on the trip back on the two lane portion of the Rt 15 in VA. The LKAS kept the car much too close to the center line for my comfort. It was no where near the center of the lane. It never crossed the center line, but turned it off with on coming traffic Plan on asking the dealer to check its calibration and/or adjust.

ILX (Cold Air Intake and exhaust question)

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a 2015 Acura ILX 2.0L and had a couple questions regarding doing modifications on it. I am not very knowledgeable in this field so anything helps.

I was wondering If anyone can suggest a good cold air intake system for my car. And also an exhaust system that I can get added for more power and to be louder.

I was looking for something affordable and nothing over the top. Nothing too cheap either but rather average. Any options are welcome.

Thank you,
