Battery won’t take charge after brake pad replacement

Hi everyone
I have a very frustrating problem. I replaced the brake pads on all four wheels and when I went to pick my wife up from work I got the little battery light in the dash. Soon after the car lost power and stalled altogether. When I turned the key, the lights in the dash just flickered rapidly and the engine wouldn’t start. I went to get another car and by the time we got back the car started again. We got it back to the house in limp mode. We replaced the battery as it needed to be done anyway but a few days later the same problem appeared. I did some tests with a voltmeter and reaized that the battery is not being charged. I am not very good with electrical stuff but I assume it’s either the alternator or a bad ground wire. It seems too much of a coincidence that that alternator would go out right after me doing a brake job. So i’m thinking that maybe I damaged a ground wire or something while changing the brake pads. Is this possible? How should I proceed? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you everyone!

Comptech Manual Headers

As much as I hate to part with something so rare, but they're collecting dust in my garage and I'd rather see them be put to good use.

These headers came on my 03 CLS6 when I bought it in 2012. I took them off at the end of 2018 and put on P2R headers.

Headers have no dents or dings, flex pipe is in good condition. Gaskets will need to be replaced where manifolds meet j-pipe.

I'm asking $800 OBO. Willing to ship.

I'd be willing to trade for a set of 17" or 18" Enkei wheels.

2018 TLX V6 A-SPEC FWD Transmission Issues

Took my 2018 TLX V6 A-SPEC FWD to the dealer this morning for oil A1 Service & State Inspection. While there I asked them to take a look at my transmission...I also went for a ride along with a tech.

Been noticing very violent shift pattern & I replicated the issue twice with the tech in the car, the vehicle would lurch forward and downshift hard in city-driving conditions when I was very light on the accelerator.
  • 1600-1900 RPM
  • 25-30mph
  • Gear 2-4
I used to own a 2010 G37x Coupe and I recall the technicians resetting the ECU & Transmission Computer + Installing Software patches. However today, my dealer said there are no software patches and no way to reset the transmission? I can't find a definitive answer on this forum as to whether or not this can actually be done on '18 TLXs, my dealer tech says it can't but my 8-year old Infiniti makes me think otherwise...

+ Bonus I just hit 32,500 miles on it and the dealer recommends changing my transmission fluid for $410.00 can anyone confirm they've seen similar prices? Seems high to me.

Rattle from driver-side rear tire only when hitting potholes 2016 RDX

I have a 2016 Acura RDX AWD. When hitting potholes or recessed manhole covers or any other "sharp bump", but not gentle bumps, there is a hollow metal rattling sound. This sound is coming from the driver-side rear tire area and is most prevelant with the windows down. It sounds like something hitting a heavy gauge heat shield. If the passenger-side rear tire hits the same types of bumps there is no noise. Which leads me to believe it is something within the tire/suspension on the driver-side rear tire.

What I have done already (with no success):
- Tightened down spare tire
- New tires
- Alignment (shop only adjusted front as the rear was within tolerances)
+ Re-torqued suspension components
Checked shock for leaks (none found)
Disconnected/removed sway bar end links and problem persisted

Is the MDX losing the "Best 3 Row SUV" title?

MDX is by far one of the best 3 row SUVs in the market. The sales number demonstrate that for the past two decades. I am noticing in the past few months, Infiniti QX60 is outselling the MDX in Canada and USA. I checked the pricing and MDX is more expensive but still, it's a concern to me. We need the new MDX :)The truth is the QX60 is old too and doesn't offer anything wow. I believe the lower cost attracts people.

ok so I made the mistake of not separating the screws and bolts when I took off my transmission and replace it with another one and I'm having a hard time figuring out which bolt goes where and it's really frustrating, I was in such a hurry that I didnt separate them and I'm wondering if theres a diagram or something to know which bolt goes where, if someone has a diagram or something like that to show me where each part goes i would highly appreciate it, thank you very much, also if theres anything i should know about changing transmissions that would be a great help, thanks again

Groaning from behind the steering column, and squeaky engine bay when car is moving

$

For a while now my 2009 RDX with 147k miles has had this occasional groaning noise from behind the steering column, and a squeaking noise from the engine bay. I thought this was caused by an old drive belt so we ignored it for a while (it only occurred occasionally, and it went away after ≈20 secs). Recently I've had some problems with the starter/alternator that was fixed (hopefully), so while we were fixing that, my dad and I decided to replace the drive belt since it was convenient. Not only did a new drive belt not fix the issue, the noises now occur more frequently, and also for a longer duration.

Details about the Groaning Noise: (I amplified it because it was quiet in the original video)
-Sounds like Chewbacca, or an old door squeaking open.
-Can be heard as soon as key is turned to accessory position, engine doesn't have to be running.
-Only occurs occasionally, noise is only present for 2-3 seconds.
-Has happened in cold and hot temperatures, but consistently occurs when engine is cold.
-Power steering fluid is at the maximum level.
-After doing some research it seems to me like it's a power steering issue, I just don't know if I should replace the whole pump, the seals, or just do a ps fluid flush.

Details about the Squeaking Noise: (This was a video I sent to my friend, sorry about the commentary)
-Sounds like.. squeaking. I don't know how else to describe it haha.
-Occasionally comes on after engine starts running on a cold start, goes away after I start driving for around 30 seconds.
-If power steering is the issue that causes the groaning, could this be my power steering pulley?

Any help or advice is appreciated, thanks in advance! :)

Buyer pays shipping!

Get a custom sub setup for your 4G TL and save room for golf clubs, a big stroller, etc. Just screw the bracket into the back of your AWD model, wire the line-out-converter to the OEM sub, and run your power/ground wires. Sure you lose access to your pass through but do you really use it anyway?

-Custom built box made to spec for JL sub that's included
-12" JL Audio W3 (only about a year old, replaced the one I had for 5-6 years that finally blew)
-500 watt single channel Alpine MRP-M500
-PAC line out converter

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on performance modules for a stage 0 or stage 1 tune for a 2012 3.7L TL. Im relatively new to this and would rather spend a few extra bucks to get a good product rather than spend 100$ and get nothing out of it. All suggestions are welcome!

Ok so I got a j pipe, precat, deletes, takeda intake, and a ktuner. I am thinking getting a 3.7 intake and p2r runners with bigger throttle body befor I get tuned. What I am looking for is if there is anything I should do befor that stuff. Or would you just tune it how I have it now and add the stuff and then tune it down the road. Thank you for any and all info.

Peter Mayhew, Chewbacca in 'Star Wars,' dies at 74

By Kendall Trammell and Jamiel Lynch, CNN

Updated 8:05 PM ET, Thu May 2, 2019

(CNN)Peter Mayhew, the original Chewbacca, has died, according to his agent.
Mayhew, 74, died on April 30 with his family by his side in his North Texas home. He is survived by his wife, Angie, and three children. The Hollywood icon played Chewbacca in the original "Star Wars" trilogy, episode 3 of the prequels and the New Trilogy, according to a statement from his family.Mayhew, who once used a wheelchair, stood tall to portray Chewbacca once more in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." He also consulted on "The Last Jedi" to help teach his successor."He put his heart and soul into the role of Chewbacca and it showed in every frame of the films from his knock-kneed running, firing his bowcaster from the hip, his bright blue eyes, down to each subtle movement of his head and mouth," his family said. "But, to him, the Star Wars family meant so much more to him than a role in a film."Mayhew started the Peter Mayhew Foundation to support people in crisis situations, including providing food and supplies for the children of Venezuela during their recent road to freedom."His kindness, generosity and care will live on in the Peter Mayhew Foundation with Angie taking the helm as his voice," his family said.A memorial service for friends and family will be held on June 29. In early December, there will be a memorial in Los Angeles for fans.

2010 smashed passenger mirror

Long time lurker on the site - wifey smashed the passenger side mirror today backing into the garage door rails. Car is a 2010 TSX Tech Vortex Blue.
Attached are the pictures showing the damage.
With the broken glass, I have verified that the actuator works (don't know how that survived the impact) and the mirror indicator bulb works as well.

My question is if I need to replace
Mirror Assembly, R Door *B553P*: Part # 76200-TL0-315ZB
OR
if I can get away with replacing just the offending parts
Mirror Sub-Assembly, R (R1400) (Coo)(Heated): Part # 76203-TL0-305
Housing Set: R Part # 76205-TL0-E21ZC
Light Assembly, R Side Turn : Part # 34300-TL0-G02

Looking at OEM parts - so the first option is closer to $600 and the second closer to $300.
This will be my first time doing this repair/replacement, so I am not sure if I get the individual parts, if it is even possible to swap those out and what kind of effort it is. The youtube videos just show how to replace the entire mirror - no one talks about repairing just the broken parts.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Max

Why I have no use for shops...

I'm sure some of them or some of the mechanics within them are good, unfortunately, its not tattooed on their forehead.

EXACTLY why I never take my cars (or motorcycles) to a shop, be it a dealer or an independent.

The other week, I had the front wheels off my girlfriend’s car to check out a noise coming from the front end when driving over speed bumps. Likely the sway bar links as has always been my past experience and the mileage was right.

What got me was that the left front wheel was dragging while trying to spin the wheel. I always check that aspect for sticking pins and caliper piston.

The brake pads were recently replaced since they were almost new. There might have been 10% or 15% wear, if that. Some clown at the dealer simply installed a set of brake pads without doing a full service; that means removing the pins, cleaning them, cleaning the cavities the pins slide into in the caliper mount, and greasing them. It took quite a while to remove one of the seized pins.

Sheesh, when I do a brake service on my daily driver that sees use every day, my brake jobs are good for 4 to 5 years of trouble free service; that is about the time I replace my pads and discs. My last daily driver car is now in the hands of a Porsche friend and it’ll be 20 years old this fall. The same trouble-free calipers are still on it and the pistons slide freely.

Ya gots to know what you are doing!
