I'm new and this is my 98 3.2 TL and my story behind it.

So um, Hi my names Charles and I'm new to the whole forum thing. I've never joined a forum to learn things before but I know this is the best way to learn and see all the different ideas and work that could be done on the 1st Gen TL. My first car and the only car i could picture myself ever owning is a 98 3.2 TL that I've had since i was a freshman in high school about 6 years ago. I've always wanted to get into doing more with my TL looking into VIP ideas and strongly like the Honda Inspire look a bit more then the Acura TL Emblems but I waited too long and came to a hiatus when my transmission broke down on the highway in 2011. Even during the 2 years of my car being broke down I never thought about replacing my TL instead I saved up until I could afford to buy a new transmission. I recently got my car running again last November in 2013 and besides scratches and my rear struts being completely crap and destroyed from swerving on the highway when it happened but besides that my car seems to be running greatly. I've been really wanting to use this come back to get motivated into going through with doing more with my TL but have little experience working on cars. After coming across this forum and seeing and reading all the great work people have done to their 1st Gens and seeing people that like the 1st Gen TL as much as I believe myself to. I figured joining this forum would teach me a few things and help me find out where or even how to start on these ideas. I live in a town of car fanatics and working on your car and such is a common thing. A lot of my friends have built or are still working on their cars so I learn things here and there but I still don't know a whole lot about cars but i know enough to not sound completely lost in a conversation about my own car. So I joined this forum cause I feel like I could learn a lot and stay interested in these threads especially since they're about 1st Gen TL's and such. Here are a couple of pictures of my 98 3.2 TL from about a week ago after going on a cruise with a few friends of mine after a car gathering the locals in my town had. The last 2 photos aren't the that great for my car but it shows the front and rear view pretty nicely. Ignore my ignorant friend flipping off the camera and my horrible MS Paint job to cover their faces and license plates. Sorry for my awkwardly long story/introduction paragraph. So here are some pics of my car and a few of my friends cars

Also it would be nice to here any opinions on which direction you'd take with my TL i think it's between the VIP look with black oem headlamps(don't remember the full name of the headlamps) or lowered with the Honda Inspire look and emblems with a small lip kit..sorry if those aren't very good descriptions on the looks that i'm thinking i'm still trying to learn all the different styles. But opinions pls. i'll catch onto the lingo soon

"Started.." Progress Thread (WDP 6MT on VS-XX)

Hey all, been on this site for a minute and this is actually my 2nd Acura I've owned since joining Acurazine.. previous car was a CL-S 6MT. I'm 22 from the great city of T O R O N T O. Anyways, I presently drive a base TL 6MT that I've owned for about 1.5 years now, this is my 2nd car and I think I've done enough to it to warrant a progress thread.

Car started out as a bone stock TL with A-Spec kit. Off the top of my head, here's my mod list:

-Full Type S exterior and interior conversion using all OEM parts
-Tein SS Coilovers
-RV6 V3 PCDs
-RV6 V3 J-Pipe
-RV6 True Dual Exhaust
-Ingalls Rear Camber Kit
-Comptech Short Shifter w/ Moddiction shift knob
-OEM Window Visors
-Roof Spoiler from bmwoemshop
-RDX Rear Caliper Covers
-Work VS-XX wheels 18x9 & 18x10 (summer setup) w/ Work RS extended lugs
-A-Spec gunmetal wheels 18x8.5 (winter setup)

Future plans:

-07/08 Base Front Lip
-Rebarrel my front wheels to 10" wide
-Moar low
-Moar camber
-Moar stretch
-Comptech Supercharger if I can find one for a good price

Unforunately I don't own a nice camera so cell phone pics from my Galaxy S5 is all I have to show  Hoping to get some good shots up in the near future. Open to criticism and suggestions, thanks for viewing!

Crank pulley wobble

$

So today while checking for the whining noise (seems to be coming from the belt), at idle while looking at my crank pulley I noticed a slight wobble. Like it doesn't spin perfectly smooth, it has this slight back and forth wobble, like an out of balance tire. Should I replace the pulley? And is it bad to drive the car like this until I get the new pulley in?

03 tl type s

Hi, new to the site!Enjoy seeing all the great Acuras on here. I just came upon a 2003 TL type S with 70,000. So clean and Stock and had all the service done ,including timing belt at 60,000. I have heard about the Tranny issues and noticed a little bit of slippage occasionally when accelerating onto the freeway. Just wondering if a flush will help?

Stage 4 Exhaust w/ Magnaflow 11365 Mufflers

Okay, so today I finally did it. I went to a local exhaust shop and got raped. Well, more or less. I purchased two Magnaflow 11365 mufflers $170, along with some quad exhaust tips from SoCal-autosports $110, and went to an exhaust shop to have it installed $270 after tax. Needless to say, I spent way more than I thought originally.

Anyways, so as I'm driving away from the shop, my exhaust progresses towards reaching operating temperature. As I'm fairly aware, the closer my car gets to operating temperature, the more the exhaust transforms from rice burner, to rich-toned. As I'm driving I noticed that the level of drone is increasing as operating temperature is being obtained. After work, I decided to go on a long drive to start the break-in period of my exhaust.

All I can say is, "Wow". There is so much drone being emitted from my exhaust, into the cabin of my car it's crazy. The 2.5k-3k drone is so bad when driving around town (terrible with windows down, worse with windows up). Freeway driving is unbearable. As you ascend and descend up and down varying grades of hills, and as the engine load changes, so does the intensity of the drone.

What I liked most about my previous exhaust setup on this car (stage 4 exhaust, no other mods!!!) was the exhaust had a loud tone to it as you went up the RPM band. With the windows up, you could hear the exhaust tone, but there was virtually NO DRONE. Since I'm still setup with stage 4 exhaust, the only difference is the rear magnaflow mufflers, I would have expected the same characteristics from my old mufflers to transpire to the new ones. The difference between the two (I thought) would be that the magnaflows were much louder.

I'm actually shocked how much drone I experience now. I will give this setup a month for things to settle and break in. But something is going to have to change, whether than be insulating mats layed on the contours of the trunk and cabin of my car, or the addition of a resonator.

I still have my dynomax 24235 race bullet muffler, I'm just not ready to throw in the towel and have that installed (again) and not know if that is the correct direction to go with this issue I'm having.

Input would be greatly appreciated. I've done some research to better understand the problem I am having. I've found a specific type of resonator that is capped at the end to cancel out unwanted resonants, but, again, I'm not sure if that is the correct path I need to take.

What to do in vancouver

I have never been to Canada before and finally, I am going to visit Vancouver in early Oct for a quick weekend getaway.

I will be staying at the Sutton Place, Vancouver in downtown and i am not planning to rent a car since i heard their public transportation is very good. I want to take the skytrain from airport to downtown and walk to the hotel. Based on my personal experience, i believe walking is the best way to visit a place since you will miss most of the things while driving.

Unless of course, there are some must sees where i must have to have a car, then i have no problem renting a car but I don't wanna pay $30-40CAD a day for parking at the hotel.

Since i had never been to Vancouver and i am not planning to visit again anytime soon after Oct.
what and where are the must dos/goes/eats there?
I am :rice:, so i think i will blend in just fine. :D I will personally compare the type of cars that the rich :rice: girls in Vancouver vs. rich Asian girls in SGV,626, Socal. I don't believe they are all white color (the cars) like dim sum said.

Any recommendations and suggestions will help.

Does T-Mobile work there?

I tried looking at acuraoemparts.com but they didn't have the j-pipe. I'm looking for a new OEM stock j-pipe for my 2007 TL-S so the black market didn't really help.

Anyone know any sellers/websites?

New England.

Quote:

Drivers beware on New England roads! Five of the region's cities rank in the Top 10 worst in the country for accidents, according to Allstate Insurance Co. In Worcester, Massachusetts, the average driver goes just 4.3 years between collisions, compared to the national average of about every 10 years. Drivers need only cruise about 40 miles east to find the second-worst city: Boston. The 10th annual "Allstate America's Best Drivers Report," is based on the insurer's claims data and ranks America's 200 largest cities in terms of car collision frequency. Springfield, Massachusetts; Providence, Rhode Island; and New Haven, Connecticut, make up New England's contribution to the worst 10 list. The best? Fort Collins, Colorado. It marks the fourth time it took the honor of being "America's Safest Driving City." The average driver there will experience an auto collision every 14.2 years. Second is Brownsville, Texas, followed by Boise, Idaho, Kansas City, Kansas, and Huntsville, Alabama.

2004 TSX AC - Recycle switch help

My TSX has begun to have a small quirk in the AC controls perhpas others have seen this and can comment.

When I push the AC Auto on in the car the Recycle Air comes on, light shows on and if I push the recycle air button it shuts off but so does the air conditioning? I then noticed that when I turn on the AC and the Inside Recycle air comes on after a fairly short time period the Inside recycle turns it self off and the AC stays on..

Could this be a "Filter clog" issue. I don't think I've ever changed my Inside airfilter (were just turning 118 miles) no have I had any issues at all with the the AC it cools great and the auto temp works great... Like I said this is just a new issue that I have noticed in the last few months..

Thanks for any info you can provide on this.

CEL/TCS back on after coil replacement

$

My car is a '99 3.2 TL, 163K miles

On the drive to work yesterday, the car starting shaking badly when acceleration, idling roughly (thought it was going to stall), and the CEL & TCS came on, with the CEL flashing. I took it to the local parts store, and the codes came back as cylinder misfires. I tracked the problem to one of the ignition coils, replaced it, and the car went back to normal (I thought). I drove it a bit last night and it seemed normal, and went to bed proud of myself (not much DIY experience with cars here).

This morning, all seemed fine, until, pulling into a drive through, the car starting idling roughly. It still accelerated fine, but 5 minutes later the CEL and TCS light came back on. The car performs fine accelerating now, just idles rough. I haven't had time to get the codes read yet, but I suspect they're the same.

Any tips as to what I should be looking at here? It'd be a big coincidence for another coil to fail the next day, and the symptoms are different. I didn't change the plugs out yesterday, should I? It did get driven around with the misfires for 15ish miles yesterday; could that maybe clog up the EGR and set off some new codes? I'll update with new codes this afternoon when I can get them, but any advice or heads up from the forum would be greatly appreciated! It's been of immense help so far!

Well, I have enjoyed this forum a lot and have learned so much over the years, from modding to repairs. This place is the best; I will miss you all!

I test drove the new TLX and liked it, but decided to buy the Infiniti Q50S Hybrid. Between the 360HP and hybrid fuel savings, I couldn't resist. Maybe the next round Acura will have something hybrid ready :wish:

4 Cylinder and V6 Test Drive Today

$

Well, was finally able to test drive the 4 banger tech and V6 tech today and I won't repeat all of the in depth reviews that have already been done by you guys. I have to say that I have to agree with all of the positive comments about the I4. It is very quiet, handles well, and has a good amount of pep, very nice vehicle. That being said, after driving the V6 I was blown away. Pushing it up to the red line put a huge grin on my face that the I4 didn't. The sales lady had the perfect description of my reaction, "it was like love bubbles were coming out of your mouth," ha ha ha!

My own personal opinion with the rims on the I4 is that I can't stand them and would have to change them immediately. That being said, I'm not a huge fan of aftermarket rims, and really like the stock 18s. Pricing for that upgrade is about $2300 so doing the math with this in consideration of the price of the V6, there is only roughly a difference of $1925, which made my decision even easier. It's going to be the V6 tech for me! BTW, the accessory 19s are pure hotness in person (I hated them in the online photos).

Going to go with the GLM/Ebony color combo (man I wish I could get it with Espresso). Didn't attempt to make a deal today as I'm going to see what kind of pricing my credit union's car buying service can negotiate (have no illusion of some spectacular deal since the car has only been out for a minute and there's only about a $2500 price difference between invoice and MSRP).

Can't wait for my new TLX although I will miss my 3G TL. She's been a great car and has not given me a lick of trouble. Don't need two cars and a co-worker wants to buy it from me at a great price.

Hopefully, I should be joining the TLX club in the next few weeks. :toocool:
