Rattle/thumping in the rear.

Hello, I have a 2001 CL-S. When driving over bumps there is a rattle/thumping sound coming from the rear of the car. It sounds like the spare tire but I've taken the tire out and the sound remains. I tried a search but no luck. Any ideas?
