After searching for a good transmission shop, I decided to take my car in to have a noise investigated. It sounded like gear clatter/chatter in 1st and 2nd at low RPM and turned into more of a whine at higher RPM. It only happened when my foot is off the clutch (clutch engaged) I knew it was transmission related because the pitch of the noise always matched RPMs and went away when the clutch is depressed.
So long story short, they say I need a rebuild because of a problem starting with the bearing the clutch rides on which caused play that caused the transmission input bearing to go. And by the way, some how the flywheel was also damaged and needs to be replaced. Total cost quoted is $3300!:what:
Now by far, Im not an expert on transmissions. Does this seem like something that could happen and is the price within range of whats expected for a tranny rebuild? Btw, new clutch flywheel, bearings, seals, and labor are included in the price.
