Lamborghini has released the first photo of its all-new Huracán LP 610-4 race car that is destined to compete in the Italian automakers Super Trofeo one-make racing series from 2015. Recently, Lamborghinis motorsport division Squadra Corse announced it had hired some drivers (pictured in gallery above) to help with testing of the car, and weve now learned that initial shakedown testing has gotten underway at the Vallelunga race track in Italy. The new race cars official title is Huracán LP 610-4 Super Trofeo, and as the name suggests the car packs the same 601-horsepower, 5.2-liter V-10 found in the road-going Huracán, and its all-wheel-drive system, too. As the teaser photo reveals, there are some major modifications at the front, most likely to aid downforce and provide extra cooling. Were also expecting an extensive body kit for the rest of the car and a large rear wing. Even though the Huracán race car will start competing in the three present Blancpain Super Trofeo racing series next year, any teams that have just purchased a Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo will still be able to compete in the new season. Lamborghini has confirmed that both the Gallardo and the Huracán which will share the grid but will race in different classes. The first shakedown is always a very special moment, Giorgio Sanna, Lamborghinis chief test driver and new head of Squadra Corse, said in a statement. Ive followed the development phase step by step in SantAgata Bolognese, and we are all enthusiastic about this very important moment. Note, the Huracán is also due to be developed into a GT3-spec race car that will serve as a replacement for the present Gallardo GT3. The Gallardo GT3 competes primarily in the Blancpain Endurance Series, with one of the cars fielded by Lamborghini motorsport partner Reiter Engineering. |
