Hey Everybody.
I have a 1997 Acura CL 3.0 and my transmission is slipping. No it didnt fail due bad desgin or engineering like I have read in other forums but actually it was something small. Im not sure what its called but the seal that goes were the CV Axle sits I believe was bad and leaking tranny oil, I didn't even know it was all I knew was it was shifting late slightly I didnt mind thinking it was a fluke or not serious, yea my dumbass should of know better. By the 2nd day the late shifting got a little worse going to work so im like OK my trannys going. So once I left work to go home as soon as I get into town as soon as i hit this hill, check engine line on, D3 blinking, car not moving but revving preety high (id say 4-5000RPM).
I than smelt something burning so i stopped immediately, put it in neutral, and pushed it into a spot nearby. So the next day i got it towed 2 my mechanic checked the dip stick for the tranny shit was completely dry. So we jacked it up, but some tranny fluid, and detected the leak was that seal. So I changed the seal, both axles, and both control arms since they were bad. The next day i go to pick it up and drive off I feel it slipping between 1st and 2nd. But only slips wen I give it gas if i baby it it doesn't slip or slips lightly, once im in 3rd or 4th I can give it some gas.
So yea I changed the tranny oil since it wasn't the right fluid and added some of that Lucas tranny fix, helped a little but not much still gets the slipping. Now my mechanic called a nearby Tranny rebuild shop he knows off and the guy told me he would charge me $1,200 for everything (parts & labor). You know gaskets, seals, bearings, torque converter, gears, etc. The works. But it only comes with a 6 month warranty. Do you guys think its alot or just about right?
I mean this was gonna be my potential project car for this year got a bunch of parts sittin in the kitchen for it. Had it for I'd say 3 1/2 years but this year has been a shitty year for my car since the engine went almost 2 months ago because 2 piston rods and a bearing snapped like out of no were. Im thinking it was my fault since i was beating on it wen it was stuck in snow after it snowed stormed twice early this year. The engine had 141,000 miles on it b4 it went, the one i got in it now just hit 71,000 miles. Got it off ebay for about $600 with shipping, guy sent me the Carfax and everything. I mean i was going to rebuild the tranny next year but since i guess im a year ahead of schedule I got no choice.
So what you guys think? $1,200 to much or a good price on a rebuild? The next shop is like 30mins away highway, I live in Pennsylvania so for those who know my struggle everything is a fudging drive :annoyed:
