2001 CLS - Bad Lockup Solenoid

I have 145k mi on my 2001 CLS. I've already been through one transmission rebuild and I'm thinking I'm about to have my second--but I have a little bit of hope.

It had been running very well and 3 days ago when leaving work, I started the car and all of the tell-tale tranny warning lights went off (blinking D5, VSA light, "!" light, check engine). At roughly 80k miles, I had the same lights show up and the transmission would not get out of first gear and was really rough. It was truly shot and had to be replaced. I don't remember exactly which

However, this time around, I noticed that the only "issue" with the driveability was that when I was in first gear at a stop, it took more gas than usual to get the vehicle moving, but once it was out of first and into higher gears, it seemed to shift just like always. Dreading the worst, I brought it to my mechanic and he agreed that it sounded like we needed a new tranny.

Well I went to the shop today to talk over some things and just as I was there, my mechanic discovered that the Lockup solenoid was completely shot, i.e. burnt up on the inside. He suggested it might make sense that it is just the solenoid given the driving issues I explained above.

I told him it'd be awesome if it ended up being a $200 fix, but in the back of my mind I am wary.

Anyone else have any similar experiences? I'll likely find out tomorrow and I'll update.
