Consumes more coolant than gasoline

This ones got me baffled. My '99 CL 2.3 blew a head gasket; so I thought. I removed the head and there was an obvious breach of the head gasket between an oil passage and a coolant passage.

So I had the head surfaced and replaced the gasket. The block was in spec.

But she's still drinking heavily.

I have pressure tested the system hot and cold. When hot I lose about 1/2lb. psi over 20 minutes; I assume due to the engine cooling. When cold it holds 15psi for an hour without any loss.

It seems to me that I don't have a coolant leak but she'll drink a gallon of coolant in 20 miles.

Any thoughts on how the coolant is getting to the combustion chambers without a coolant leak?
