I bought a CLS6 a week ago and I have a few questions. The biggest thing that bothers me is a popping noise that intermittently comes from the intake under no specific condition as well as a strange sound when turning of the engine, posted below are videos of both. Also when I push the clutch in to change gears the rpms jump for a second THEN fall and I also get a bit of a jerk when in gear and I completely release the gas, even while cruising in 6th. There is a slight ticking on idle that increases with accel but stop when you release the throttle but starts again when it hits idle
Also I have clunking in the front end when going over bumps and when the mechanic put it up on the lift he told me I will need both front lower control arms replaced for $475 which includes parts and labor for both sides with parts being $320. How do these prices sound and is this something I could do myself?
Last thing, I wanted them to scan my computer for codes as I feel like I should be getting a CEL from the popping but they couldn't because a brown wire with silver dot the leads to the connector was cut :whyme: the mechanic warned me that reconnecting the wire could possibly fry my computer and that it would be a 3 hour diagnostics time $207 to trace the wire and figure out why it was cut so any insight on that would be greatly appreciated.
So for the long post figured I would be thorough.
EXTRA INFO: The car has 119k miles on it, I was told the 105K mile service was done. The front and right side motor mounts look fairly new. Mechanic says transmission look fairly new and the guy that I bought it from said it was rebuilt. I think I got a fairly good price on the car and I'm willing to put some money into it since I plan on keeping it for awhile, I just need to figure out exactly what need to be done
