Its been about 3 years since I had my CL, thinking about getting another-have a few ?

Here I am back on Acurazine, I had my 01 CL until Dec of 09, when I was involved in a relatively minor accident that crunched the front corner of the car and was enough damage that the insurance co totaled out the whole car. I have a Chevy Astro van that I drive for my business, but things are going well now and I'm looking for an affordable car to drive at night and on the weekends, I love the Astro van and the AWD is awesome for our snowy WI winters, but its not exactly the best vehicle to take on a date! I LOVED every minute driving my CL and I'm considering buying another one. I had nearly zero problems with my CL, including zero tranny problems (in which case I probably wouldn't have loved it nearly as much!) and it was just a great car to drive.

I guess my main question is have we gotten anywhere in the last 3 1/2 years with the tranny issues? Or is it still just change the fluid and filter often and hope for the best? I guess if I found a good deal on an 03 6 speed manual, I'd consider it, but I really prefer driving an automatic over a stick and the 6 speeds are pretty rare anyway. I did some searching around here and it looks like not much has changed on the tranny issue, I see some people talking about adding a tranny cooler, but then others disagree that it makes any difference. Am I missing anything here or are there any other new developments as far as the trannys go? I also remember right around the end of my CL's life, people were talking more about swapping the stock tranny for another one, I think it was the 5 speed auto trans from an Odyssey, if I remember correctly-anyone doing that these days?

I really loved my CL and would love to get another one, especially now that they're a lot cheaper than when I got mine, but I'd sure hate to have to drop 3k or 4k on a new/rebuilt tranny (how much is a rebuild or swap going for these days?) for a car that didn't cost much more than that to buy in the first place! Thanks and maybe soon I'll be back!
