Clutch went out....any help appreciated

Hi everyone, it's my first post since joining the forum and after purchasing my TL (07 WDP 6MT) from a fellow member here last September. Anyway, I just recently went through a scary situation:

I was in a left turn lane couple blocks away from home (thank goodness) stopped at a red light when I step on my clutch to put it in 1st and I hear a loud "snap" sound as I step on the pedal (can't identify the source at this point so please pardon my vague and novice explanation). The clutch pedal remained at the floorboard position and would not release, but I also realized that it wasn't engaging at all. I couldn't get into gear. I used my foot to manually release the pedal, step on the clutch again but nothing. I was stuck in the left turn lane.

Skip forward the panic and alarmed state I was in, I had to get the car towed back home...again I am grateful that I was relatively close.

After consulting some friends who are more mechanically inclined than I am, they have voiced their opinion that possibly my pressure plate went out. Does this make sense? I originally thought that the spring snapped which could have caused the loud noise and the fact that the pedal is not returning but that wouldn't explain my clutch not engaging.

Any opinions/inputs/suggestions would be appreciated. It's a 2007 with approximately 84,000 miles and the clutch and flywheel were replaced at around 57,000 miles according to service records from the previous owner.

Thanks guys, I'm really looking forward to hearing from you all!
