Ok gave my old 97 285K miles :) to my daughter and now after 8 years driving it with no problems I'm under the hood working on it. :( Daughter called from work it drove fine to work but would not start when she went to leave. Live on Gulf Coast temps this week were around 85-90 and humid. Last week her battery went dead she replaced it. Same time her upper water hose sprung a leak and she replaced it. The car did overheat a little when she blew the water hose but not enough to make the engine quit or even run rough. She pulled into store replaced it (not her God forbid):) and drove fine for another week.
Here is what I have checked so far and how.
Car spins fine, starter engaging.
1. ODB II scanner showed a few EGR type codes but nothing I have not seen over and over with no problems. I cleared the codes and tried to start again then rechecked nada. No codes.
2. Checked fuel pump it is whirring. Then checked I had fuel flow at the filter on the firewall. Just loosened bolt engaged pump and gas shot out. So did not check pressure but did check I have fuel at least that far.
3. Pulled plug wire not sure which bank it is (forward drivers side plug). Used old screwdriver test and got spark (yellow at about .25").
4. I can hear main relay under dash click after key is on for a few seconds and check engine light goes off.
5. Only fuse box I found was under passenger side hood and only fuse I saw that I thought could be an issue was ECM and it is fine.
Unless you all come up with something I'm missing I'm heading for a compression test next, as I'm out of ideas.
