License Plate Light Plastic Lense Cover Removal

I replaced the OEM license plate lights with some LEDs. One of the bulbs made contact with the plastic lense cover and I guess it overheated and burnt the cover a bit.

Does anyone know how to removal that plastic lense cover/bulb holder from the tail gate? I have attached a couple of photos for reference.

I'm not sure if I should try to remove the holder from the inside or outside of the tailgate.

Mods please feel free to move the thread to the appropriate section if this is not the correct one.
