I changed my spark plugs a couple hours ago. After changing them, I started the car. Fired right up. Idled smoother than before, and a little quieter. Noticed that now the CEL is on. No flashing, just solid.
I drove it around the block. All is well. Runs even smoother than before. Still quieter than before. Responded very well to acceleration. Still idled well.
Why would my CEL be on after changing plugs, but the car runs even better than before?
Checked the temp gauge. The engine was cool when I started it after the plug change. Temp gauge read cool as normal.
Driving for about 5-10 minutes, I noticed at a red light that the gauge was just above the lowest mark -- normal. Well, when I started moving for the green light, the gauge dropped below the lowest mark, down to the "C". I may just be paranoid. It's a decent 75º outside, and nighttime.
I stopped at a store and looked under the hood. Nothing at all appears to be unusual. Couldn't find any loose/disconnected components. Engine felt like it was right around normal operating temp for about 10 minutes of driving.
I started the car back up and the temp gauge was normal, a little below halfway, and it remained there for the next 5 minutes or so as I drove to where I was going.
Any ideas?
