V6 Tech Personal Review

Well, I finally got my hands on a new TLX. My friend works at the local Acura dealer and invited me to take a long test drive with him. I'm very interested in the i4 model but they only had a v6 in stock, but I still decided to take it for a spin. I drove about 25 miles and this is what I got:

1) The car is fine looking in photos, but it's gorgeous in person. The black copper is really great to look at.
2) The seats are buttery soft, like the new MDX advance, and have about the same stiffness as the outgoing TL.
3) The button shifter definitely takes getting used to because I normally drive with my right hand on the shifter so I had to find another spot for it.
4) Center armrest is not as soft/pleasant as in my TSX
5) Nav FINALLY has the ability to hear an address in one straight sentence like in Audi/BMW. That's huge for me.
6) The lights look fantastic and it's hard to differentiate the high and low beams, but I only looked for a few moments.
7) The trunk seems smaller than my TSX, but that might be b/c of the trunk tray they put in there.
8) The shifts are almost imperceptible at least with the 9 speed auto I drove. Very smooth from gears 2 on up. But the last post here explains 1st gear.
9) Had some issues with IPOD play. I hooked in the iPod cable from my car into the TLX and it wouldn't recognize my iPhone 5. My friend tried for 10 minutes to get it to work to demo the sound system, but it never did. Hoping that's a fluke.

LASTLY and this is the big one:
10) I very much noticed the 1 second lag everyone has been talking about. I drove about 10 miles in normal mode in varying traffic and every time I stepped on the gas from being slow or at a standstill, the throttle response was oddly delayed. Even my friend noticed and commented on it when I mentioned it. It felt very odd. I put it in Eco and quickly changed out b/c it seemed to affect the A/C which in the south is a cardinal sin ha. Putting it in Sport reduced the lag a bit, but I noticed it still. My TSX doesn't have this lag. Once you're past it, the ride is very smooth. Putting it in Sport+ has a very noticeable difference in performance and reduces the lag considerably.

Overall, this car is more premium than my TSX in most departments except for initial throttle. I just don't know why it felt so incredibly odd taking off in that car, but I hope the i4 doesn't have this issue. Judging from the expert reviews, it accelerates normally. I'll update once i drive the i4.

PS: LKAS worked great. Strange feeling at first, but definitely cool.
