TLX Lease V6 Tech

$

Whats up guys, just ordered my TLX V6 Tech yesterday. Went with a lease over a purchase this time. My last ride was an 06 RL so I knew I'd be sacrificing a few things I'm used to, mainly the size of the interior and driver leg room.

I went with the Tech cause of the upgraded leather, ELS speaker system, bigger rims and of course the 3D navi. The new technology Acura has added is amazing, from the blind spot sensors, double screens, lane keep assist, auto wipers and forward collision warning... the interior is easily competitive with other luxury brands.

I was most surprised with how well the P-AWS handled the road, I didn't really see a need for the SH-AWD. The car rides extremely smooth and quieter than any Acura I've ever driven. I wasnt a fan of the new touch transmission at first but it grew on me.

There were only 3 cars on the lot (Esserman Acura in Miami) so I had to order the color combo I wanted. Went with the black pearl paint and black interior, should be arriving early October. I got the Acura Advantage since its my 2nd Acura purchase. Going to use the $500 accessory credit towards wood grain on the steering wheel. First month is also paid through the program and a debit card will be sent to me for the amount of the 2nd months bill.

As far as the lease goes, I got it with 10k miles & $2500 down.

The money factor is the lowest they offer since I qualified for the Super Preferred credit tier. I'm looking at $448 a month including tax, but I'm going to further negotiate the MSRP once the car is delivered :wish:

Acura deletes TL and TSX from website

Well, Acura no longer has the TL or TSX on their website so they are now officially deleted from the Acura lineup. It is now just the ILX, TLX, RLX, RDX, and MDX. I guess that's pretty much the final goodbye for them now...

TLX Dealer Inventory

So, in searching TLX inventory through NC, GA, SC, and VA I found that it was common that most dealerships (even the large ones) had on average 5 or less TLXs in stock with some very few lucky ones having as many as 12. Well, low and behold, Pohanka has 31 in stock! :what:10 L4s and 21 V6s, seems like they have a got a choke hold on the TLX inventory in the Mid-Atlantic and SE. Does anyone know how dealers get their allotments? Leith and Performance in the Triangle move a pretty good number of vehicles but between the two they've only received 4 with 3 remaining.

Quick 2.4 test drive

I had a chance to do quick test drive of a 2.4 Tech today, and here are my impressions. Please keep in mind that I haven't driven the V-6.

- The DCT shifts smooth and fast. I felt like 8 gears was "enough" to keep the engine in its sweet spot. I'm not sure if there's really a need to have more gears that are only used in specific overdrive/highway situations.

- For everyday driving, I'd choose Sport.

- In Eco, Normal, and Sport, you can change gears using the paddle shifters, but the transmission reverts back to automatic after a "given time". This time was about 2-3 seconds. Coming from a manual, I was a little disappointed that I couldn't manually control it in all modes. Do I "need" to? Well, no. But I like using my clutch even in slower traffic. It also wouldn't let me shift manually from a stop. I had to start accelerating in automatic, then use the paddles.

- Overall, the steering was nice. While it didn't quite have the weight that I hoped for, it was very smooth and linear.

- Smooth is the word of the day. Quiet interior, firm but controlled ride. Yet the 2.4 wanted to rev and the car felt tossable given its size and weight, especially if it had tires with more grip. I've always loved the high-revving nature of Honda engines. While I've had a few turbos and appreciate the low-end torque, the 2.4 has a nice power curve without being too high strung.

- The interior quality was solid. When I sat in the V-6 Tech last week, I was concerned that the bolsters weren't large enough, and that the leather was too slippery. While I didn't go super hard into any corners, I was pleasantly surprised that the seats held me in place. However, after my test drive I sat in the base V-6 from last week, and it does seem like the leatherette would have a little more grip for spirited driving. I also think the leatherette is a solid alternative to the leather. I'm not really into the extra Tech features, and I'd rather save the money.

- And I could put these savings to good use. I try to avoid hyperbole, but honestly the 17 inch wheels are awful. Maybe in the Winter -- covered with slush, salt, and grime -- they would look better. I would try to get the stock V-6 wheels from someone who's upgrading, or go aftermarket in search of an OEM+ look (need the offset for fitment). My dealer showed no interest in giving me anything for the stock wheels and tires if I upgraded with the purchase.

- I really like BWP. But I used to be a pretty obsessive detailer, and I'm afraid the BWP would cause me to revert to my old ways. So in the interest of less maintenance, I will probably go with SSM. Of course, like others I need to see it in person. But based on the pics it looks better than SM, which is a little plain to me.

- Overall, I'm impressed. But again, it was a quick test drive, and I'd like to spend more time in the car. I'm definitely leaning towards getting one, but my left leg is still holding me back a bit. I will miss the visceral feel of shifting myself. Sure, I'm not the greatest manual driver in the world, but at least it's me and not some pre-programmed logic. But I'm at a point where I'd like upgrade in size, and a tossable grand tourer is my goal. The DCT is a nice compromise. In fact, it might be the only compromise because I don't think that I would go with a full automatic. I also don't want to settle for a car that I'm less enamored with just to have a manual. I've always admired Honda as a company. Yes, they can be a bit conservative, but they still seem to hit the right notes with me, especially with the TLX.

Hi fellow ziners, I am shopping for a rear view mirror for 99 tl. Can anyone suggest a place to buy a new one for a decent price? I have looked at some used one and I think it won't be a good idea to get used since it's not guaranteed to last. Thanks guys

Dual screens...distraction for driver?

I keep looking up reviews of the TLX since its debut because I am considering buying the SH-AWD trim when it becomes available. I came across this article earlier online about how the dual screens can become distractions. Anyone who has test driven or currently own the TLX or Q50, is it a distraction as the article mentions? It seems that the touchscreen will take your eyes off the road for a longer period of time rather than simple knobs/controls (ie: climate control, audio control

At My Wits End W/This A/C! PLEASE Help

'05 RL w/165K miles. My wife's car that I very rarely drive.
A/C was working perfect then compressor locked up & killed the motor. Come to find out the shaft on the pulley locked up then broke & contaminated the system. My mechanic flushed the system (said it had a bunch of trash in the system) & replaced the compressor, expansion valve & drier. After that the A/C wouldn't get very cold & come to find out the condenser was clogged so he flushed the system again & replaced the condenser. After all this, w/ambient temp. of 80-85*, it would still only blow ~50* going down the road but if I stopped @ a red light it'd blow ~20* warmer before the light turned green. Mechanic said this is how this system is designed, that it isn't an efficient system & that's just how it is even though before the compressor broke( & last summer) it worked great (& was waaaay colder). Why would it do this if it had all new equipt., both fans run when A/C is turned on & correct amount of refrigerant????

**Next question & newest scenario**
Today it was 98* outside. Going down the highway, after driving for 20 miles, it was blowing @ 55* doing 70mph. Stop @ a red light & it got up to 77*. In my driveway it was blowing 78* & when I sprayed the condenser w/water hose it went down 13* in 20 seconds. Then I noticed radiator fan would kick on every so often but condenser fan never did! **This was NOT the problem before because we know for a fact both fans came on as soon as A/C was turned on.**
I checked for 12+V all thru the wiring & had good voltage coming out of the female plug that the condenser fan plugs into. Tried running straight off + & - battery to fan & it still didn't work. Also, the radiator fan doesn't run 100% of the time w/the A/C on like it did prior. My question here is does it sound like it's just the A/C condenser fan motor I need or is it something more?

Last question so I can tell my mechanic:
what temp does your A/C blow sitting @ idle in the sun when it's 90*+ outside & what's it blow going down the highway?

I've already spent over $1,100 on this & still don't have a working A/C. I'm @ my wits end so PLEASE HELP me!!!!

so i understand you may loose some hp with this mod but will gain a slightly noticable amount of torque, which in my case 3-5 tq to the wheels i'll be fine with ... but will still you lose significant hp with other mods in place already - in my case, 4" intake, underdrive pulley, dc headers & 2.5 exhaust? & fitment should not be an issue i can close my hood with a 2" deep socket i have placed on all four corners of the IM and closed the hood perfectly.

so i chatted with a guy with an 01' tlp for a bit ... i approached him 1st lol, because i noticed he had only 1 muffler coming out of the middle of his bumper. comes down to his setup was - headers, 2.5" piping to where the stock resonator used to be with which he replaced with a 3" resonator and 3" piping from the resonator straight back to a 3" magnaflow muffler. it sounded pretty dam good. performance wise he said he felt stronger all through the power band & knocked 2 tenths off of his ET (vs total stock setup before). the one time i saw him run the dam times didnt display!!! looked like a good high 14 though ... anyways, is that an exhaust layout anyone else has done ? i though it was kinda cool, just different, as he basically turned the 2 escape routes in the stock layout into 1 and its a total straight flow all the way back. seems to make sense though as he went up to 3" from the resonator back

I have a stock 2009 Acura tl tech FWD. Right now, I have 245/50R17 michellin tires on 19" stock wheels.

Wheels im looking at are 20" STR 607.
Fronts are 20x9 with 235/35. Rears are 20x10.5 with 255/30 tires. Lug pattern is 5x120.

No bends or cracks. Light scratches. Tires are 90%.

Will these 20" STR wheels/tire package fit my car? If not, what changes would I have to make and how much would it cost approx. at the shop to do?

Thanks!

FS: Custom LCD Headrest Monitors for 3G Type S (gauging interest)

Gauging interest in my headrest monitor setup

What it is: Alpine TME-M780 7" monitors custom cut into OEM Type-S (embossed) charcoal headrests.

Also have a Myron & Davis AD212 DVD player custom mounted into the OEM rear armrest. Cup holders from a 2010 TL (OEM) are retro-fitted toward the rear of the armrest.

Also included is a pair (2) Alpine 2 channel IR headphones

The caveat: The control box for the monitors needs to be serviced. I have contacted Alpine and they say the control box can be serviced for a cost of ~$120. I am willing to get the controller serviced if I can get a strong commitment to buy from someone. I'll also sell it as is for a discount and you can deal with getting the box fixed. The system worked fine for a couple of years before the control box went belly up.

The monitor kit was originally purchased for $699, the DVD player was $150, the cup holders were ~$75, and the headrests I bought used for ~$125. So, over $1000 plus my time to put it together invested. I'd like to net $500 + a replacement OEM armrest for the whole rig or, net $400 for just the headrests and monitors if you don't want the DVD player/armrest.

Let me know if you have any questions.

bird poop etching stains....how do you deal with them?

okay so i realize theres a general "detailing" section of acurazine that i can probably go to to find great answers...but lately ive felt the need to stay closer to home with the first gens when asking about stuff. but........

BIRD POOP ETCHING STAINS. man i didnt even wait that long. i got it during the night time and when i woke up in the morning it was there..fucking geese...it was huge...anyway i watched the most of it off, used a clay bar after (for like an hour) and was able to get most of it off. but theres still the etching. im so pissed

my obvious road would be to wet sand with a fine grit (what do you guys recommend) and then polish. BUT. i dont have a buffer...or atleast a legit one (porter cable or any of those crazy dual speed ones). plus id rather do stuff by hand anyway for fear of messin up my clear any further. anyway..how have you guys dealt with this. do any of you have any methods by hand i can try? or maybe a method that doesnt require wet sanding? its been about almost a week and im afraid the etching is just gonna keep eating at my paint.

thank you in advance

Woke up around 6 this morning, got ready walked outside and found this. I normally don't part outside but I was cleaning some spilled oil in the garage, left some degreaser to soak (didn't want my tires sitting in that all night) I have parked outside a hundred times, and had multiple cars parked outside and nothing has happened before. I live in a decent neighborhood, rarely have police and the worst that usually happens is people speed down my street.

Didnt get to choose which model since it was the only drive train the dealer had.

exterior: imo looks beautiful; nice lines and well proportioned. More on the elegant side than sporty. As most have said, it doesnt stand out. But then again I live in socal where even the 3 series, a4, c class or even the 5 series and e class dont stand out anymore. I guess to me its the mods that make a car stand out no matter what kind it is as long as its tastefully done and I think with a few mods this car will really shine and turn heads. the semi hidden exhaust still is an eyesore... looks like something you would only see on a base trim civic/corola or sonata. Hoping that ron jon comes up with a fix.

interior: its okay... I didnt like the silver plastic all over. Even in the ac vents. They should have just kept it black imo. The silver plastic is too bright. The 4g has plastic on the dashboard but is darker. For some reason the vertical ac vents were harder to adjust to my liking. Seats were really comfy. The added cushion really helps and it feels snug.

Drive: i did feel the hesitation even when i was on sport +. I feel like i always had to downshift in order to take off. Seems like the gas pedal needs to be adjusted or may e a was hesitating to step on it since the salesman was there. Lol. The change in modes also didnt affect the steering feel that much... it was still a bit light even in sport +. The ride was superior and road noise was almost non existent. I drove it on cement roads and was literally going over the worst parts and also on cats eyes and still the car was composed and quiet.

overall: I like the car and im really considering it. Got to.wait for the shawd and try it. A few mods and the car will stand out and even without the car will sell for acura. By the way the black copper is amazing. Reminds me of the ionized bronze on the zdx but darker. Definitely a color that will attract attention.
