2015 RDX AWD Tech Liftgate Stop

$

Today I joined the club and picked up my 2015 WPM AWD W/Tech RDX.
It seems that the power liftgate opens high enough to just touch my garage door when open. Is there anyway to adjust the stop to lessen it by an inch or so?

Thanks,

MacNH

fixxing up my tl

Okay so i need a few parts for my 03 Tl s and i know what they are mostly and i want to know what is the best and what kind of prices i can get. I'm pretty broke as I'm a college student.

Parts i know i need:
  1. wheel bearing
  2. sway bar endlinks (moogs are a good choice?)
  3. inner tire guards, the roads up here in the winter are so sandy and it all goes up there so i want to get those.
  4. drivers side mirror ( the glass is cracked but everything works)
I also think I'm in need of a ball joint.... i hear a creaking on wide turns. I believe its on the drivers side, could it be the upper ball joint?

I'm also going to probably need tires soon, what should i get that will be good all year round (it snows a lot in my area). I got around all last year with pretty bald tires but it was a nightmare as it often snows A LOT up here.

Also since I'm getting the inner tire guards i'd like to clean out the inner tire area and around the engine as a lot of dirt has built up around these areas, any recommendations on cleaning this up?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Where's the rear door handles on the ZDX?

This might sound like a dumb question...but where are the rear door handles? All the pictures I've seen do not show them.I think the ZDX is a really cool looking car,for those who have them, you are really lucky.I saw one in person for the first time the other day,and did some looking on this site to research them.

How are people mounting their easy pass/smart tag transponder? There is a rough sun shield in the area where it is supposed to be mounted. Only choice seems to be below that area or beside it.

PlastiDip'd Emblem & Badging Possibilities

So one of my first considerations is if I want to keep the Rear Emblem + Bading stock "chrome" finish or go with Dip'd.

I almost only ever seen PD as Black out IRL & here on the forums so far.

So in order to try and decide for myself, I spent a few minutes (badly I'll admit) mocking up some photo's in Paint.

I think I might have a winner in my mind, but I'm putting these up for 2 reasons.

1) Maybe it will help someone else w/o having to do the work themselves

2) Generally curious if any consensus will emerge, and if that is in harmony or opposition to my own.

I should say that ultimately this is a personal decision, and therefore mine alone, but as I said just kind of curious what reaction on the forum will be.

One final disclaimer, this is not a picture of my own car, as some of you regulars are all too aware it's currently at the dealership, but it was the best 3G NBP TypeS rear photo I could find on Google Images, & it was not attributed to AZ. If it happens to belong to a member here, both a Sorry for poaching your photo and a Thank you for having a good usable one up on the interwebs :wish:

With all that said, on with the Photo Mock Ups.

Okay, I drove one, too

Most of the salient points have been covered already by others and in reviews, so this is to touch on a few things I noted:

First, the car i drove was a white V6 Technology with the Espresso interior.

Click the image to open in full size.

Secondly, it was about 102 degrees F at the time, so the A/C was literally blasting to cool down the interior. I turned the temp way up to reduce the fan noise, but it was still there (since I didn't want to broil).

The key things I was looking for were:

Transmission

I was very favorably impressed with the way the 9spd tranny shifted, especially under acceleration. it was so buttery smooth it was almost like a CVT. I only wish my RLX shifted as well. No hard shifts, no lurches, just buttah.

i did the test I always do - which is to get up to about 35-40mph, then slow down to about 20, then try to accelerate again. Just like my RLX (and many other cars I've had, including a Lexus LS460), it got its feet tangled up and had to think for a second or two before accelerating away. I don't know why this happens, but it seems to be a fault of almost every AT out there today, and it could get you killed.

I also tried the transmission in all modes except ECO (who wants that?). Honestly, I couldn't tell a dramatic difference in performance, although the Sport+ setting DID hold onto revs a little longer. On the negative side, it also made for some lumpy downshifts as I slowed and came to a stop.

Bottom line is I like the new transmission. I would probably leave it in Sport mode all the time, just for the additional pep, and I don't think it would make a big difference in gas mileage.

(By the way, it's been mentioned, but the ICS drive mode is remembered, and it stays in whatever mode you left it.)

Ride and Handling

The TLX has the "Acura ride", but after driving my RLX with 19" wheels and low-profile tires for months, the TLX actually felt noticeably smoother and softer. Not to the detriment of handling, but to the benefit of comfort. I wish my RLX rode as well.

The ICS settings seem to affect the steering weight and throttle response a little, although again I didn't notice anything dramatic in my relatively short drive. It didn't seem to make the difference pressing the Sport button in my RLX does, for sure. Sport mode in the TLX felt best to me, and that's another reason I would probably leave the ICS in that mode.

Interior

A lot has been said about the interior size, and I'll just say this - it seems about the same as my last (4G) TL, but I can't swear to it because I didn't have them back to back. The salesdude confirmed Acura's claim that interior volume is the same as the 4G.

Materials quality seemed fine to me for a TL-class car. It doesn't have leather-covered dash and door panels like my RLX, but that's appropriate. Now, because it was a dark-colored interior, it was harder for me to evaluate it. All dark interiors seem gloomy and lower-quality to me, and I'm accustomed to lighter leathers and plastics, so I'd have to see one in Graystone to really make a judgement. That said, I certainly didn't feel like I was in a low-rent car.

I especially like that the rear seatbacks fold. The trunk seemed plenty roomy to me as well.

Equipment

Just a short comment here - I was happy to see lots of "RLX-like" equipment in the TLX Tech. Blind spot monitoring, electronic parking brake and brake hold (woo-HOO!), LKAS, dual screens, jewel-eye headlights, multi-vew rear camera, etc.

I forgot to see if it has the capless fuel filler, but I'll bet it does.

Exterior styling

No real issues here, unless maybe that the car generally doesn't have the "what was that?" styling zing of the 4G. That's especially true in the rear, where the 4G's dramatic tail lights have been replaced with generic-looking tails. And of course from the front it's virtually impossible to tell an ILX or RDX or RLX from a TLX.

Otherwise, the body shape is pleasant even if it's not wow-inspiring.

Performance

Even with the new tranny, this car isn't going to blow people away with its engine performance. But that's okay with me - TL's have never been race cars, and this one seems about on par with the 4G by my seat-of-the-pants G-meter. Acceleration is strong from a stop, even if not overwhelming, and the car seemed to me to downshift and spool up as well as expected.

In short - nice, but you're not going to be blown away. And as I said, for most of us that's okay, since previous TL's have been pretty doggone good runners and this one's no different. If you want more, strap a turbo to it.

One thing I especially looked for was the rumored "hesitation" or "pause" when accelerating from a stop. I did a number of stops and starts with varying levels of aggression, and I was unable to make it hesitate.

Summarizing

That's the main points I wanted to relay. Having owned a number of Acuras - 3G TL, a number of 4G TL's, MDX, RDX, RL and RLX - I can say this one continues in the spirit of the previous ones. It's got a premium feel, a nice appearance, excellent equipment and honest good performance. It's not a giant step forward, which probably disappoints those who wanted 350hp and racing slicks as standard equipment, but it's a solid vehicle.

Think of it like the iPhone 5s compared to the iPhone 5, and be glad it didn't slip backwards in any category. :)

Another Custom After Markert Stereo Installation

Before I begin I want to THANK THE COMMUNITY for posting so many DIY's and answering questions that others have.

If you are a reader and is planning to do some thing, I request you to post what you have done and help others out there.

I have installed the following things to my car this summer, it took me a while to complete all these but I had time so no complaints.

Kenwood DNX570HD
Kenwood CMOS-300 Rearview Camera
Viper LED 2-Way Security + Remote Start System 5806v
DBALL 2 Interface
iDatalink Maestro SW ADS-MSW Universal Steering Wheel Integration Module
PASSIVE KEYLESS ENTRY (PKE) 2102T DIRECTED ELECTRONICS
Black Red Wired Revers Buzzer Alarm Siren for Truck Car
Open Bumper with Foot

Like many others said its lot of work to install after market stereo in this, so keep that in mind before you start the installation.

I liked the iDatalink lot better than the PAC SWI-RC, for some reason PAC didnt work for me, so I tried the IDatalink steering wheel interface so much easier to configure. No button programming, it was all done on the PC. Love it.

These threads were crazily helpful.

Used this to remove console and instll the stereo. Great write up CDGUY

To prepare my wiring harness

I have ordered two of these and then took some of the pins from the second one and have put them in 1 so I could plug into the stock radio harness.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...d=998715738014

I love the PKE, when I approach the car door will unlock and I start the car and go.

I thought of also doing the "open the trunk with foot" as I have the PKE working.

This is what I did, on one of the Aux Out of the Viper security system I have set a trigger(that pin is ground for 90 seconds) for 90 seconds after unlock, I took that and ran wires to the trunk and installed a weather proof switch under the bumper as you see in the picture. I have connected a relay to the trunk open switch near the driver seat to mimic the press of the trunk release button when the button under the bumper is pressed. It works really well.

Some of the things that got me.
Use RCA output if you are planning to not bypass the stock/factory amp, otherwise you get lot of noise from the speakers by amplifying the signal twice.

When removing back seats there are two bolts, one on each side below the head rest, the bolts are in opening that is in the front not on the top. I have spent 1 hour finding those bolts.

Poor grounding on the camera made me have an really bad quality image on the rear view camera.

Fabricating moons / half circles was painful and I couldnt make them prefect.

Also if you have not bought the kit prepare to see lot of space around the after market stereo.

Always disconnect the batter when working on the car, with out knowing I have grounded the power so many time I had to replace so many fuses.

Removing the center vent piece in the center console was a pain, pull up with pressure.

Keep in mind your trunk release button wont work if you have removed your glove box.

Many in the TL forums think the TLX is just the new TL, but I understood its a new product that replaces both. Early TLX reviews say the TLX 4cyl is similar to the TSX as well.

I have a 2014 MDX for a loaner. I might be trading in my TL for the MDX :chuckle:

The Acura TLX is set to replace both the TL and TSX in Acura’s sedan range, as the Honda brand tries to focus on more than just crossovers. Our first take? The new TLX is pretty darned brilliant, with the best-tuned suspension you can buy for the money. It’s really that good.

2002 TL power steering hose leak

Hello can anyone tell me if it's ok to replace just the top portion of the high pressure power steering hose, I think I see a clamp behind the motor where the rubber hose meets the metal hose, I have a free hose that the top portion is the same but the bottom metal portion won't fit my car (it's straight and mind curves back on itself), my leak is at the start of the hose where it's goes metal to rubber with a high pressure fitting, it drips on the top of the power steering pully, thanks for any help

TL Type S front compliance bushings

$

I'm considering buying some TL-S compliance bushings from Heeltoe. The 04-06 model TL-S is supposed to have a stiffer bushing than the TSX.

I'm fairly sure that they will fit, but my question is:

Has anyone run these? How does the car ride, and is there any binding up due to the harder durometer? If they bound up, they would wear out quickly...kind of like how poly compliance bushings wear out fast because they don't deflect.

Thanks for any input.

PS...no, I don't want to replace the whole arm instead. Nothing on my car is rusted. It will come apart without issue. I would rather use genuine Honda bushings than aftermarket.

Thanks!
